The books
Ten Thousand Angels Press was founded in 2025 by John Morgan, primarily to publish the second edition of his project Usylessly, which explores the non-literary aspects of the 1922 edition of James Joyce’s Ulysses. Upcoming titles include Baskerville’s Teardrop Explodes: A Selection of Books as Muses, completed shortly before he died, and a long-researched study of the Gallimard Blanche series of books.
‘The expression, “How many angels can dance or stand on the head of a pin?” is often used as a metaphor for considering matters of apparently small importance or significance. Even if inconsequential to most, I have spent a large part of my life and practice focusing on small concerns, the almost invisible, and the qualities such preoccupations can bring to a project. But who’s counting anyway? The angels are dancing, it is hard to follow them, they blur and atomise into each other. Do they even have bodies or are they incorporeal spirits? In early July 2024, while in hospital in Oxford recovering from brain surgery, I arrived at a figure of ten thousand. It’s an estimate. I can’t be sure. Dancing together they “press” and exert pressure. Ten Thousand Angels will give oversight and take care of this publishing imprint. It’s more than enough.’ (John Morgan)
